Laos closed its borders last spring. Its first death from Covid-19 was reported in May 2021. So far three people have died from the virus. No airlines fly direct to Vientiane or Luang Prabang from the UK and Europe so travellers in this part of the world will need to wait for surrounding countries, like Thailand, to reopen to international tourism before heading to this under-the-radar Southeast Asia nation.
