“The Cubans are the Chosen People — chosen by themselves,” wrote journalist Luis Aguilar León.
Want to find out why?
I have guided holidaymakers around Cuba and crafted tailor-made itineraries for clients. My clients have requested the best rooms in the best luxury hotels and beach resorts on the island and, most recently, top private apartments in Old Havana, and rooms with ocean views for a photographer’s project.
I can tell you where to find the best local experiences, the speakeasies, most welcoming homestays, quirky events, shopping experiences, and meet the most interesting people. I have great contacts across the arts and music scene, in particular.
I can also make sure you don’t miss the most off-beat corners of Cuba’s cities, towns, villages and valleys.
Photography fans? I can help photographers get the most out of a trip having trailed the Cuban light for years…

In 2013, I also started working in Cuba with Smithsonian Journeys who offer legal People-to-People tours for US travellers to the island nation. In 2014, I worked with the US Environmental Defense Fund, who are working to protect Cuba’s marine protected areas, National Geographic Expeditions, and National Geographic Society board members.
In 2015, I worked with the first New York Times Journeys programme to Cuba. In 2016 I began working for the UK’s Political Tours to Cuba.
“I have travelled twice with Claire in Cuba. She has written features and guidebooks on the country, speaks fluent Spanish, has a wealth of Cuban friends and contacts, and shares her knowledge of Cuban history and culture in a very lively manner. She makes an excellent tour guide.”
“Claire Boobbyer is – in my opinion – simply the best. I’ve had the pleasure to both work and travel with Claire (in Havana and around Cuba) many times. A 4-day trip she organised for us to the spectacular, annual, Xmas fireworks in Remedios was one of the highlights. I had very little idea about the place or event but with her help and guidance discovered wonderful people and off-the-map places. Travelling with her is a delight. The breadth and depth of her knowledge is impressive but her manner – deeply curious, always kind, reassuring and patient – makes for a truly relaxing, yet exciting trip.
I consider Claire to be the quintessential traveller, travel writer and guide – showing obvious respect for, and commitment to, the country and its people, and to us – the explorers and travellers.”
“After working with Claire at Time Out, and learning of her expert, in-depth knowledge of Cuba, I hired her to create a bespoke itinerary, which met the specific interests and timescale, for my first trip to the country. I was so impressed with her work and her fluent Spanish that I further employed her as a personal guide.
Throughout the trip Claire was fantastically organised, booking accommodation and events well in advance and ensuring that I took in all the most interesting places of historical importance as well as giving me a flavour of the contemporary music, art and culinary scene.
I definitely wouldn’t have had such a rich experience without Claire’s expert, insider knowledge and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone who wants to get the most out of their trip to Cuba.”
